| Here is an originally inexpensive guitar with an interesting sound and history. It belongs to Robbie Flint. When he met his wife, she had this old cheap guitar laying around. He always liked the sound of it for slide guitar stuff. So many years later, when he started working for Alan, he got the idea to use it on stage. Alan became fond of it's unique sound and it ended up on many of Alan's hits and album cuts. It can be heard prominantly on cuts such as: Mercury Blues, Summertime Blues, Hole In The Wall, If I Had You, Strayhornpipe (The Strayhorns) If You Ever Get Back To Amarillo, These guitars were sold out of the old Sears & Roebuck catalogue. "Silvertone" was their proprietary musical instrument brand. These were probably made for Sears by the Kay or Harmony Guitar Company. Interestly, some years later, when it was in for repairs, it was discovered to have a loose internal back brace. Robbie thinks perhaps, that this structural aberation, contributed to it's unique sound. It appears to have a top of sitka spruce and one piece back and sides of maple. It has a Fishman PreFex onboard blender preamp and a Fishman Matrix pickup. |
